It’s September and that means that awards season has officially begun! Starting with the ‘Oscars of the Pub Industry’ which took place on the 6th September at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.

Now in its 18th year, the Morning Advertiser’s Great British Pub Awards saw 600 guests attend the glistening awards ceremony, which celebrates the very best of UK pubs across 19 categories.

Corporate Events were back again for our sixth year delivering this spectacular show. This year, a change of venue meant fresh possibilities and we worked closely with our client, William Reed, to ensure the guest experience was considered at every point. With four acts to manage and the charity sponsor to look after, it was a jam-packed day – and that was before the awards even began!

The event was turned on its head with the awards held in the Westbourne suite and the after-party in the Nine Kings suite. Although a challenge, we worked on alternative set options that worked best for the space and the switch of rooms really helped improve guest flow and enabled the bars to create brilliant activations.

The awards were decked out in red, white and blue with a nod to 60s pop art to match the Great British Icons theme – – because what is more iconic in British culture than your local pub! During the awards, Duke – a beatboxing trio – made the room feel alive and the host, Russell Kane, delighted the audience with his comedic quips.

The event truly is a highlight in the pub industry calendar, as Morning Advertiser Editor Ed Bedington explains: “These awards really are the pub industry’s equivalent of the Oscars, so to win one is a huge achievement. Once again we’re delighted to produce a diverse list of outstanding pubs across the UK to reveal what we like to refer to as the UK’s ultimate pub crawl guide, as well as honouring some of the fantastic people who work in the nation’s best boozers.”
