The Publican Awards 2020

Background

The Publican Awards are established as the biggest event in the pub industry’s calendar. We have produced the event for nine consecutive years with the main objective being to create an impactful and entertaining event that involves delegates in a true celebration of the industry’s successes.

Since 2016, the event has been hosted at the iconic Battersea Evolution, London – allowing a wealth of space for us to unleash our creativeness!

1400 delegates attend the event annually, each looking to experience an extravagant, creative and professional show, as well as the sponsors, who play a significant part in the events success.

Solution

Pre-event management is vital. Our Event Manager and Technical Project Manager work to create the set and stage, the event slide deck and printed promotional material, as well as liaising with our in-house Studio across all design, graphics and video content.

Every element of the event production is overseen by Corporate Events and for 2020 we installed two 30ft projection screens and 12 LED columns – each with a variety of bespoke content created by our in-house Studio, for maximum impact across the whole width of the room. A selection of AX1 pixel tubes also created a wall of colour at the front of stage.

A section of our brand new 2.5mm LED screen created a stunning graphic backdrop behind the host. It almost eliminates the ‘moire effect’ and provided fantastic photos for the MA magazine post-event.

For 2020 The Studio at Corporate Events approached the sting from a different angle and created a large colourful canvas and animated  around a series of bold statements surrounded by dynamic paint explosions. This modern style using kinetic typography to display the messaging, made great use of the multiscreen canvas.

Hero screens displayed the captions whilst secondary vertical screens spanned the width of the stage – further adding to the impact and overall explosive colourful theme. The movement of the paint effects ramped up in speed for winner walk ups – this combined with fast and dynamic lighting all added excitement and a buzz for the winners on the night.

With the scale of production at this level, Corporate Events must provide a dedicated and skilled team through audio and data management and lighting design in order to provide a seamless production output. The Production Team consisted over 40 crew including event management, set builders, show-callers and video.

For live relay we used a two camera set-up and utilised ‘picture in picture’ on the wide screen projection to show winner walk up, live host and speeches on the side screens. We used our E2 screen management system and live vision mixer to achieve this. 

For the afterparty William Reed used a live band, for which we provided a full PA system, staging, truss and lights to create a dedicated area for guests to enjoy their music. We also provided lighting effects for the bars to give each installation their own bespoke lighting scene.

Our event management team worked with the client’s Event Team pre-event, on-the-day and post event to co-ordinate all logistics, 2020’s awards host Rob Beckett, live entertainment and delegate management.
