AV Awards 2018

Background

The AV Awards recognise and reward excellence across the Audio-Visual industry. Now in its 20th year, AV Magazine wanted to create a show stopping event that reflected the innovation the awards celebrate.

The theme for this year’s awards was ‘Circus meets Steampunk’ with branding consisting of colourful illustrated cogs and an equally colourful ‘host’ in the form of a steampunk circus ringmaster character by the name of Gizmo.

After nine months of planning, the event took place in the Great Room of Park Lane’s Grosvenor hotel. As guests entered the foyer, they were greeted by a host of circus acts including a contortionist, jugglers, a strong man and some playful chimps(!). A real-life Gizmo challenged guests to take part in his hi-tech memory game, while a smaller sugary version of the character adorned one half of a giant birthday cake. The other half of the cake was projection mapped with stunning visuals creating a feast for the eyes. An augmented reality mirror also allowed any guest to transform into Gizmo themselves!

With a sumptuous three-course dinner over, the awards kicked off with entertainment from comedian Romesh Ranganathan. A total of 30 awards were given for categories ranging from Most Innovative Company of the Last 20 Years to Entertainment Venue of the Year, each recognising ground-breaking or boundary-pushing excellence in the AV Industry. Corporate Events were proud to sponsor ‘Projector of The Year (under 8000 lumens)’. Guests then partied the night away with entertainment from the New York Brass Band.
