LGC Awards

Overview

The 24th LGC Awards were originally scheduled for the 18th March at Grosvenor House, London, earlier this year. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the live event was postponed as the UK was placed into a national lockdown.

We supported our client to transition their traditional live event into an engaging virtual experience for guests, where over 1500 local authority professionals came together to celebrate the very best in local government, as part of the biggest awards ceremony in the sector.

Solution

Our in-house Studio provided full content support, producing the opening animation for the online awards ceremony, which really brought the brand and event identity to life.

We developed the category, nominee and winner slides within Keynote, which reinforced the core event identity to deliver a virtual awards presentation with impact.

To ensure the virtual event was delivered seamlessly, we hosted back-to-back rehearsal calls for all winners and full technical rehearsals for hosts, as well as supporting the client with pre-event sessions to discuss and shape the event content as engagement was vital.

The online ceremony was hosted within Studio One at our Virtual Studio facility in Swindon, Wiltshire, where we provided event production and technical crew, onsite event management, show caller and multi-camera broadcast.

The set featured our 10m LED wall which surfaced the opening animation and keynote and all sponsor videos and live winner interviews plus live Twitter slides, which our content team supported.

Our client used Swapcard as a platform, which enabled them to create an engaging and interactive awards stream that allowed attendees to learn more about each shortlisted entrant, and network with each other.

Outcome

Hosted by LGC editor Nick Golding and renowned journalist and presenter of BBC’s Today programme, Justin Webb, the winners and highly commended of the 21 categories were announced, interspersed with live interviews with the various winners.

With over 1500 viewers on the day, the online awards were also trending 8th in the UK on Twitter! A fantastic achievement, when just 24hrs before, the client had hosted the annual Student Nursing Times Awards virtually with us here at Corporate Events.
