The Great British Pub Awards

Background

The Morning Advertiser’s Great British Pub Awards are one of many awards we produce for William Reed throughout the year. The awards look to recognise and reward the very best pubs Britain has to offer. This year’s awards covered 16 categories including Best Beer Pub, Best Family Pub and Best Sports Pub, but the highlight of the night comes down to who will be named ‘The Great British Pub of the Year’.

The Great British Pub Awards

Solution

Being one of the most prestigious events in a licensee’s calendar and having produced the last four awards, our challenge was to make sure that the event lived up to expectations and impressed the growing audience whilst meeting the creative brief. As with any event, but especially at awards ceremonies, it’s essential to make an impression on guests as soon as they arrive. A creative event theme and effective design of the entrance, set, and stage, is what keeps it different and exciting each year. In keeping with the Best of British theme and the London venue, the studio created a silhouette of the London skyline which formed the stage backdrop, giving guests a ‘view over London’ whilst London’s landmarks glowed in the centre of the tables. Outside of the main room the photo opportunities were endless. The team made sure you couldn’t go too far without seeing a union jack, classic Routemaster bus or an iconic red letter box, truly capturing the Best of British theme.

Outcome

The awards were hosted by London-based, Canadian comedian and star of numerous British panel shows, Katherine Ryan. Following a charity game of Rock ‘n’ Roll Bingo and a 3-course dinner, the comedian took to the stage and after the hilarious stand-up routine, presented the awards to the 16 winners. Then, as with any awards ceremony, the evening closed out on the dance floor.
