Overview

The British Construction Industry Awards (BCIA) are the most prestigious awards in the built environment sector, seeking to recognise and reward excellence in project delivery and, crucially, delivering positive outcomes for society. The awards celebrate the hard work and dedication of the whole project team – from clients, architects, designers and contractors.

As the Coronavirus pandemic continued to impact and restrict in-person experiences, the decision was made to transform the event and deliver the very first virtual British Construction Industry Awards.

All 19 prestigious award categories, were judged by an independent panel of 80+ expert judges, who ensure integrity and rigour in the awards process. It was vital that a seamless and engaging online experience was crafted to a standard that this industry deserved in a new and virtual capacity.

Solution

Once again, the creative studio at CE worked to echo the event identity through the opening sting, slide deck and animated holding slide as well as creating content for Twitter during the live show based on viewer interaction.

The virtual awards were hosted within Studio One at our in-house facility, which provides a 10m LED wall as an integrated solution. Complete with staging, audio, comfort monitors, auto-cue, lighting and furniture Virtual Studio One is in a central space, and provides the perfect opportunity for rehearsals, as well as being near green rooms for hosts and meeting spaces for those all-important pre-event meetings or conference calls.

We welcomed British Journalist and Anchor for BBC4, Justin Webb, and co-host Claire Smith, Editor, New Civil Engineer of EMAP to Virtual Studio One for rehearsals and we provided pre-event winner rehearsals to ensure everyone that was nominated for an award felt comfortable with the technology.

Once again, our client used Swapcard as a platform, which enabled them to create an engaging and interactive awards stream that allowed attendees to learn more about each shortlisted entrant, and network with each other.

Outcome

The event was attended by over 700 unique viewers via the Swapcard platform and you can watch the BCIA Awards 2020 right here.
